Barbara Carmelete Bell Marcoux
known by nearly everyone as "Bobbie," passed away quietly at her residence in Bothell, Washington on January 18, 2015. Born September 13, 1914, in a boathouse on Perdido Bay near Pensacola, Florida. Bobbie was the eldest child of the well-known and respected Bell family of Pensacola. Her mother was Petrea Olsen Bell and her father was Randall Ray Bell, Sr. Bobbie married H.A. "Marc" Marcoux, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate and Naval Aviator, in Pensacola in 1937. Bobbie and Marc spent the early years of their marriage at several Naval bases around the country. Following WWII, Marc retired from the Navy and entered the teaching profession. After moving to Tucson, Arizona, Marc joined the faculty of the University of Arizona where he was a full professor and acting Dean of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Her husband Marc preceded Bobbie in death in 1984. Bobbie is survived by her three sons, Frederick Randall Marcoux (Joan); Kenneth Alan Marcoux (Carol), Boulder, Colorado; and Douglas Ray Marcoux (Betty), Port Angeles, Washington and her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; she is also survived by her two sisters, Judith Lee Bell Perry (Bill) and Shirley Bell Palmer Mertins (Carl), both of Pensacola. Her brother, Randall Ray Bell, Jr. (Caroline) passed away in 2005. In 2009, Bobbie moved to the Seattle area to be nearer to immediate family who could assist with her support and care. Bobbie was raised in Pensacola, graduating from Pensacola High School, followed by attendance at Florida State Teachers' College (Florida State University) where she graduated with a major in advanced mathematics. Bobbie taught mathematics at Catalina High School in Tucson and received a Master's Degree in counseling where, in addition to her teaching responsibilities, she counseled returning Vietnam vets. She was an avid bridge player, rarely missed a U of A football game, was active in the League of Women Voters and was a charter member of St. Marks Presbyterian Church (formerly Mountain View). A graveside memorial service is planned for Friday, March 20, 2015, to be held at the East Lawn Palms cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Road in Tucson. A start time for the service will be announced by email. Anyone who thinks they might attend the Tucson service is asked to let son Ken know so that the family can plan appropriately: keninboulder@gmail.com In lieu of flowers or memorials, the family requests that you remember this intelligent, vital, loving, adventurous, and charming lady in your prayers, and lift a hearty toast (excellent bourbon preferred!) to your fondest memories of her! Should you wish to recognize her with a more tangible memorial, please consider St. Marks Presbyterian Church, 3809 E. 3rd Street, Tucson, AZ 85716 (520-325-1001), or The Nature Conservancy. Arrangements LIFE CELEBRATIONS WASHELLI and EAST LAWN PALMS CEMETERY.
