Robert Hertel was born in Van Wert, Ohio to Floyd A. and Elizabeth R. Hertel. He proudly served in the Army Air Corp in World War II as a pilot of the Thunderbird P47N. In 1947, he met and married Wilma on Thanksgiving eve. They both passed away just shy of their 68th wedding anniversary. Bob and Wilma moved to Tucson in 1953 where he built their house on 22nd St., currently the location of Gus Balon's restaurant. As a skilled electronics technician, he held positions at Sam Levitz, Hughes Aircraft, Burr Brown and TUSD. He enjoyed gold panning and league bowling for some 40 years. He and Wilma raised five children, Mike (Cindy), Peggy, Tom (Pam), Susan Tuey (Dennis) and Carol Wise (Carl). They had 16 grandchildren, one predeceased, and 30 great-grandchildren. Wilma Hertel was born in Akron, Ohio to Nathan D. and Dorothy M. Deel. She retired from Sears as head of accounting after 21 years. After retirement, Bob and Wilma traveled the country in their motor home for three years. Wilma was an avid reader and very tech savvy for her generation. As founding members of Palo Verde church of Christ, they served those in need including food preparation for Primavera. To Wilma's consternation, Bob could fix and build anything so she rarely bought anything new. A Memorial Service will be held for Bob on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., at Palo Verde Church of Christ, 651 S. Kolb Rd., Tucson, AZ. Please consider honoring Bob and Wilma by making a donation to the Arizona Church of Christ Bible Camp at: ACCBC, c/o Lisa Taylor, 51 Danser Dr., Sierra Vista, AZ 85635. Please make checks payable to ACCBC. Arrangements by UOFA WILLED BODY PROGRAM.
