Philip Anthony Cortez
born June 25, 1970 passed away September 6, 2014. He is survived by his mother, Marty Cortez; sisters, Kris Tellez of Tucson, Elizabeth Waddle of Lake Oswego, OR; nephews, Nick and David Tellez, Hayden Waddle and niece, Julia Waddle and extended family in Tucson, Phoenix, Globe, and Miami. He was preceded in death by his father, Philip Antonio Cortez. Philip loved rock music and knew the history of most rock bands of the 70's and 80's such as Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, and many others. His joy was seeing many of his favorite bands in concert. Big hearted Philip never met a stranger and often shared his apartment with friends and casual acquaintances that needed a place to stay for a few days, a few weeks or many months. He had great empathy for people who needed a helping hand. Many thanks to Dr. Scott Wilson and the staff at El Rio Clinic and Dr. Guillermo Gonzalez-Osete of Arizona Oncology for their excellent care and kindness. A Memorial Mass will be held at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1300 N. Greasewood on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Teen Challenge, Philip Cortez Fund, 2637 North Oracle Rd., Tucson, AZ 85705.
