Col. Armando Carrillo

88, passed away July 24, 2015. Preceded in death by father, Arnoldo A. Carrillo; mother, Aurelia Carrillo; brother, Arnold Carrillo. Survived by his wife, Rachel Sepulveda Carrillo; daughter, Carla Otterson (David); son, Robert Carrillo; grandchildren, Justin and Cameron; step-grandchildren, Dave, Miles and Hunter. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel) 240 S. Stone Ave., with a Service at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Armando was born in Tucson and graduated from Tucson High School in 1945, where he was an all-star football quarterback. After high school, Armando attended Palo Verde Junior College in Blythe, California. While at PVJC, he was student body president, was a member of the football and basketball teams and received all-state honors. After PVJC, Armando enlisted in the Army and served in WWII in the Philippines. He married Rachel Sepulveda of Ft. Huachuca in 1951 and completed his Bachelor's Degree at the University of Arizona in 1953. He re-enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean War, the Vietnam War and also served in Germany and in the Panama Canal Zone before retiring from the Army in 1975. Armando then returned to the UofA to secure a Master's Degree, and taught Special Education and coached the football team at Amphitheater Junior High School for the next 12 years. Armando was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, uncle and role model. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
