John, loving called Jack was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Fred A. Butcher and Genevieve La Verne Towner. He was raised in Michigan until 1945. His family then moved to California. He attended Occidental College and that is where he met the love of his life, Joyce Baldwin. In 1950, Jack enlisted in the Navy Reserves and during his college years was given orders to serve on the DDR 877 USS Perkins assigned to the Western Pacific. He returned to graduate from college and marry his wife of 61 years, Joyce. Jack had a very successful 43 year career with Sears Roebuck & Co. He started as a Management Trainee in 1953 in Long Beach, CA. His illustrious career with Sears took him to six different states, four Store Management positions, Western Territory Operating Director, Southern Territory Operating Director, National Field Brand Central Director and National Construction Manager where his office was on the 44th floor of the Sears Tower in Chicago, IL. Upon retirement, Jack and Joyce enjoyed building a beautiful home in Vero Beach, FL where they both loved the Indian River, Atlantic Ocean and Jack's many rounds of golf. They made their way back to Tucson, AZ in 2002 to live and follow all the activities and achievements of their grandchildren. Jack was the Store Manager of the Sears Store at Park Mall from 1972 until 1980. He always said he was the luckiest guy in Sears because of the wonderful people he worked with and considered them close friends. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him and loved him.
