Harriet E. Roy
80, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2014. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, Phil A. Roy on June 27, 1997 and her middle son, David D. Roy on May 8, 1986. She is survived by her son, Paul E. Roy (Paula) of Tucson, Arizona and her son, Steven D. Roy (Deborah) of Lexington, Kentucky. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kevin Ford of Huntsville, Alabama, Neil (Eden) Roy of Ft. Reilly, Kansas, Cameron Roy and Suzanne Roy of Tucson, Arizona. Harriet was born June 16, 1934 in Akron, Ohio to William and Helen Knapp. She attended schools in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and graduated from Kent State University, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She was a past Worthy Advisor of the Falls Chapter of Rainbow Girls and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Phil, when he returned to Kent State after serving in the U.S. Air Force. They were married on September 8, 1956. They came to Tucson in 1961 and Harriet followed her career as a Medical Technologist at the V.A. Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital, and the Southern Arizona Red Cross. In 1978, she left her career in Blood Banking and began working in computerized medical records in 1980 for Computational Analysis Corporation. In 1984, she and Phil moved to Mesa, Arizona and she began working for the State of Arizona (AHCCCS), retiring in February 1996. Harriet was an avid hiker and camper and loved the great State of Arizona and the Grand Canyon passionately. She will be missed by her many friends and hiking companions and will be remembered for her ready laughter, her willingness to help others and her dedication to family and friends. She will be especially missed by her dearest friend, Robert E. Steckler, a loyal and kindred spirit, who made her life immeasurably happier, and his mother, Joan Steckler. And she cannot leave without thanking Schemell Moore for her enduring friendship and love. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the East Lawn Palms Cemetery in Tucson, Arizona, where she will be laid to rest alongside her true love and best friend, Phil, and truly be "Together Forever".
