Peter Paul Birmingham
82, passed away quietly in hospice in Tucson on April 30, 2014. Peter was born in New York City in January, 1932. Following his service in the U.S. Army in Korea, he was a proud sworn member of the Tucson Police Department. Peter served from March, 1956, until his retirement in July, 1982. During that time, he helped mentor and support countless new police recruits, and served in the Detective, Motorcycle, Traffic, and Internal Affairs divisions, among others. In addition Peter served as a Special Aide to the Chief of Police both while as a Sergeant, and later as a Lieutenant. Peter also attended the University of Arizona, and Northwest University's Traffic Institute. In the years that followed his service with the Tucson Police Department, Peter worked as a licensed Private Investigator, security guard and also provided expert testimony on issues including ballistics, traffic investigations, and use of deadly force. He also spent time pursuing his love of history, reading, and the shooting sports. Peter was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and American Legion Casas Adobes Post. Preceded in death by his son, Peter, Jr. He is survived by his wife, LaVon and his sons, John, Thomas and Paul, as well as stepdaughters, Sharon Waite and Roberta (Bobbi) Sovereign. Peter's family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to the family at Life Care Hospice for their compassion.
