Morton "Marty" Alkin
passed away on September 4, 2014 in Tucson after a long and fruitful life. Marty was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 30, 1923 and grew up in the Bronx and New York City. He enlisted in the Army and was on the Normandy beaches with the Army Corps of Engineers for Operation Overlord. He remained in Europe until after WWII, working with the Army Logistical Command. On his return to the US, he met his future bride, Joyce in Sacramento, CA and they settled in Marysville, CA. Marty worked as a landscape architect and engineer for Caltrans until his retirement. Marty had a lifelong passion for plants and growing things, and he enjoyed making wine from grapes grown on his property. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. Marty was preceded in his passing by his wife, Joyce and son, Henry and is survived by his son, Martin of Tucson; daughter, Lisa of Tacoma, WA and granddaughter, Marisa of Phoenix. A Celebration of Morton's life will be held at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church, 8625 E. Tanque Verde Rd. at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2014.
