BENEDETTO, Vito Rocco
10/10/1929 - 5/5/1987 BENEDETTO, Helen Dolores 12/18/1935 - 10/18/2016
Helen (Sis) Dolores Slopek Benedetto was born on December 18, 1935 in New York City. Helen joins her husband, Vito Rocco "Rocky", as well as, her mother, father, two sisters and brother in Heaven on October 18, 2016. Rocky and Sis were married on May 1, 1955. When they were first married they lived a year with Rocky's family learning the Italian culture of cooking at the NY family home. Rocky and Sis moved to Tucson in 1974. Sis was a devoted spouse, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, friend and confidant. Sis is survived by her children, Michael "Benny" (Marian), Christopher, Rocco (Maureen) and Frank (Shelley); her grandchildren, Michael (Chris), Louis (Lauren), Anthony, Helena and Abigail. Sis was also blessed with great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Sis lived a full life with family surrounding her. She enjoyed cards, specifically, "quarter, half, seventy five" rummy and bingo! She was known for her Sunday dinners, best of all her world renowned "egg balls" and pizza. Those Sunday dinners fed anyone that walked in the door. At the Benedetto's house, a famous Sunday line was "It sure smells like Sunday". We'll think of you everyday from here on out and smile because we know we were fortunate to have you in our lives. Sis instilled values in us that we will never forget. Sis taught her grandchildren how to swim and taught them how to rhyme. She taught them how to sit up straight and always be on time. Little things like this will live on with them forever. They will look in their mirror everyday and see Sis in their eyes. We know you are in a better place but that doesn't make it any easier to say good-bye. The best thing for us to do is realize that you will always be with us no matter what. A Mass will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Pius Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo, Tucson, AZ and interment will be follow at East Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Sister's of Mercy at Huger (2345 W. Orangewood Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85021) or a charity of your choice, in her remembrance.
