THOMPSON, Mrs. Maria Del Carmen, died peacefully in her home on March 6, 2015 in San Diego, California at the age of 94. Maria is survived by her husband, Jack E. Thompson; her children, Jack Thompson Jr. and his wife Linda, Ray Thompson and wife Pamela and Robert Thompson and wife Susan, as well as her brother, Gerardo Larrea. Maria has six grandchildren, Heather, Morgan, Michael, Nick, David and Evan and three great-grandchildren, Arden, Braden and Seren. Maria was born on December 9, 1920 in Havana, Cuba to Antonio and Mercedes Larrea. She married Jack E. Thompson in 1947, beginning a loving marriage of 67 years. Jack and Maria moved to the United States in 1960, following the Cuban revolution. Maria adjusted to life in a new country and dedicated herself to caring for her children, as well as her mother and aunt. Her children remember her as a loving and devoted mother who encouraged them to pursue their education, careers and enjoy their families. Maria, a devout Catholic, was passionate about family, travelled around the world twice, laughed freely and loudly, was an excellent bridge player, and generally enjoyed all that life brought her. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2014 at The Church of the Nativity in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Maria's life. The family would like to thank Pamela Garcia, and the caregivers at La Vida del Mar and The Forum for their care and dedication.
