Sonya G. Brown
Born on August 21, 1935 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Sonya passed away on March 13, 2015. She grew up in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from East High School. She married Charles "Chuck" Brown on April 21, 1956 and they were married for 58 wonderful years. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University, Northridge, where she majored in History. This lead to embracing her passion as she became an elementary school teacher and taught for 23 years. During her teaching career, she continued her education by obtaining a Master's Degree from the University of Laverne, California and became a reading specialist for the Lancaster Elementary School District in Lancaster, California. After retiring from teaching, Sonya and Chuck moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1996. There she became an active member and Elder in the Tortolita Presbyterian Church. She dedicated her community activities to serving the Lord. As president of the Tortolita Presbyterian Church Women's group, Sonya represented the church at Presbyterian National Women's Organization. She is survived by her husband, Charles; her children, Lantz (wife Sylvia) of Atlanta, Georgia, Stacey (wife Erin) of Sacramento, California and Sydney of NY, NY and her three grandkids, Chelsey, Justin and Madison. Celebration of life will take place at Tortolita Presbyterian Church, 10710 N. Thornydale Road, Tucson on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.
