Dr. Jack Stanley Wolf
a retired professor and business administrator, died July 15, 2014 at his home in Tucson, Arizona of kidney failure. He was 88. Jack was born July 22, 1925 in Mankato, Minnesota to Alexander A. Wolf and Edna Moore. Jack received a bachelor's degree from Coe College, an MBA from Wharton College and a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. In 1953, while attending the University of Iowa, Jack met and married Mildred "Milly" Holliday who was pursuing her Masters degree. Jack was a business professor at the University of Kansas City, St. Louis University and Washington University. Dr. Wolf accepted a position at the University of Massachusetts which began a 28 year tenure as a professor, marketing department head, associate dean and acting dean of the business school. During his career at UMass, Jack was recognized with four fulbrights which took him to Yugoslavia, Greece and Spain. His love of travelling was also rewarded by numerous teaching and consulting opportunities in Poland, Taiwan, Russia, Indonesia and Africa. Dr. Wolf earned a number of teaching awards during his long professional career. A World War II veteran, Jack served in the Air Force as an officer, flying bombing missions over Japan. He was awarded several decorations and a Victory Medal. While serving in WWII, Jack also played jazz piano with the big bands of his era. Active in civic affairs, Jack was a long standing member of Rotary International and served as president to the Western Massachusetts chapter. Jack was elected as a selectman to the Amherst townhall government and was a volunteer business consultant for SCORE among others. Regardless of all his achievements, Jack will be most remembered by his family and friends as a modest, fun-loving, outgoing man with a passion for life and unselfish devotion to his family, his students and his friends. Dr. Wolf brought joy to everyone he came in contact with his quick wit and fun personality. He enjoyed playing jazz piano, golfing, dancing and world travelling. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mildred Lenore Wolf; his three daughters, Kimberly Wolf, Laurie Wolf and Wendy Wolf; his sister, Rhea Lehmkuhl and niece, Dede Histand.
