Judge Lawrence Howard (Ret.)
Judge Lawrence Howard passed away on September 18, 2014. He was born on April 11, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from the University of Arizona Law School in 1957. He enlisted as a Private in the U.S. Army in 1950 and graduated from Armored Officer Candidate School in 1951. He attained the highest mark from OCS. He served in Korea during the war and was an Armored Reconnaissance Platoon Leader. Larry served as a Judge on the Army Court of Review and retired as a Colonel. He received the Legion of Merit Award in 1984. Larry was elected Judge of the Pima County Superior Court in 1967, appointed as a Judge on the Arizona Court of Appeals, Division 2 and served as such until retirement in July 1992. He was very fond of his friends at the Court of Appeals, namely Jeffrey Handler, Geri Mahrt, Beth Beckmann, and Amy Lederman. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary; his two daughters, Carmelita Howard Atkinson (Cliff); Lili Howard McCabe; his grandchildren, Hunter McCabe, Nicole Brianna and Noah Atkinson; and his sister, Gwen Portnoy. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 26, 2014 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL. Following the services at BRING'S, the burial with full military honors will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY. In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be made to Handmaker Leo Rich Pavillion, Starfish Care Homes or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
