Lillian and Leonard Stickle
Lillian went to join her love on November 26, 2012. She was born Lillian Needelman on March 15, 1919 in New York City. She married Leonard Stickle on September 14, 1940 and was fortunate to enjoy a marriage of more than 50 years of love and fulfillment. Lillian spent much of her adult life in Washington, DC and suburban Maryland, and several years abroad in France and Luxembourg. As a young man Leonard had fallen in love with Tucson, and he and Lillian moved there in the early 1970's. She spent the last four years living near family in Sierra Vista. Lillian is survived by her daughter, Marcia Stickle (George French) of Takoma Park, Maryland and Patricia Herrewig (James) of Sierra Vista, Arizona. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Justin (Melissa) Herrewig, Jessica (Jerry) Hursh, Wesley Herrewig and two great- granddaughters, Sharona and Dalilah Hursh. Several nieces and nephews as well as a few good friends also survive. Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Leonard (March 12, 1991); their infant son, Richard Stickle; her older brother, Bernard Needelman and her younger sister, Irma Opper. Lillian was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Tucson, Brandeis Women's Organization, Women's American ORT, the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC and the College of the City of New York Alumni Association. Of special interest to her was the Arizona Historical Society in Tucson, where she devoted many years as a docent introducing children and adult groups to the wonders and history of this part of our world.
