Tony V. Figueroa

90, Mr. Tony Figueroa was born and raised in Tucson's historic Barrio Libre. The Figueroa family were the owners and proprietors of La Fortuna Bakery located at 17th St. and Meyer Ave. At 18 Tony enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in World War II as an aircraft mechanic on Midway Island. Upon his discharge he continued his service to our country by going to work for the US Air Force at Davis Monthan Air Force Base. For nearly three decades Tony used his skills and abilities as aircraft mechanic to contribute to the viability of our military aircraft. His dedication to the service of our country is exemplified by the medals and certificates of excellence he received during his military and civilian service. Tony was an advocate for our community's youth. He served as a coach and mentor for many youth activities so as to provide a positive influence on our young people. He was instrumental and an advocate for the construction of the Albert Gallegos Skate Park at Santa Rita Park. Tony is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mercedes; children, Tony Figueroa Jr. (Rosa Maria), Maria Miranda (Richard) and Roxanna Moreno (Alberto). Tatati was blessed with eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his siblings, Francis Sepulveda (Rudy), Mary Collins, Juan Figueroa (Patsy).
