Katherine Lenore Hyder-Mack
known as Katy by her many friends, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2013 in Tucson, Arizona. Katherine was born in Buffalo, New York on February 14, 1931 to George and Arline Hise. She is predeceased by her siblings, David Hise and Conrad Hise; her husbands, Jerry Hyder and Richard Mack; her daughter, Judith Monroe and her grandson, Chet Monroe. Katherine is survived by her siblings, Edwin Hise and Sandra Jacox; her children, Patricia Gimer, Sharon Fichthorn and Michele Homan; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Katherine moved to Tucson with her husband, Jerry and four young children in 1959. The couple moved back to New York from 1968-1978 during which time Katherine pursued a career in nursing. After a snowy winter, they returned to Tucson's temperate climate. Katherine was an active and independent woman, known for her friendly smile, big heart and generosity. She was outgoing and befriended all those within her reach. Katherine volunteered by taking blood pressure readings at the Catalina Senior Center. She enjoyed travel, attending county gospel music performances and worship. A Viewing and graveside service will be held at FUNERARIA DEL ANGEL SOUTH LAWN, 5401 South Park Ave., Tucson, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2013. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Catalina. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catalina Community Services or First Baptist Church of Catalina.
