If you’ve got extra books collecting dust, take them to any Pima County Public Library from Sept. 12 through Sept. 30 to help its Bookbike program.
If you’re not familiar, the Bookbike program was launched by librarian Karen Greene to get free books out to underserved communities via a bike.
The original Bookbike, located at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library, has been giving away free books, reading glasses, bike maps and information about library programs, literacy programs and bicycling events since 2012. The library added two more bikes at the Eckstrom-Columbus Library and Santa Rosa Library over the summer, thanks to a donor who saw the Bookbike at the Tucson Festival of Books in 2014.
A book drive kickoff party will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 12 at Eckstrom-Columbus Library, 4350 E. 22nd Street. Participants can take selfies with the two new Bookbikes, attend a free bike safety class and maybe win a U-lock. Light refreshments will be served.
