The Chinese New Year 4709, which starts today, is the Year of the Golden Rabbit. And that's good news. It's a year associated with home and family, artistic pursuits, diplomacy and keeping the peace.
To celebrate, the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center is throwing a big bash on Saturday. Taste of China will feature a wealth of foods, along with music and performances.
It's the biggest celebration of the year, said Patsy Lee, president of the Tucson Chinese Association.
Tucson's Vietnamese community also celebrates the Lunar New Year this weekend with food and performances hosted by Our Lady of LaVang Parish. Tet welcomes the Year of the Cat, which symbolizes friendship in Vietnam.
Both festivities will be loaded with symbolism. Just make sure to wear red - it's a color of good fortune and joy.
