15 things that drive your fellow gym members crazy

Proper gym etiquette is key to avoid annoying those around you. Here are 15 things to avoid doing at the gym.

Engaging in PDA

Engaging in PDA

It's great that you and your significant other are working out together and feeling good about life and digging each other. But save the embracing, fondling and kissing for your home. Stick to working out at the gym.

Yoga pose

Yoga pose

Yoga is a great workout for the body and mind.

Mocking other members

Mocking other members

So you've got a banging body and you're the queen of the gym. It's great to feel good about yourself, but if you turn your withering disdain on others, then you are a terrible person. Avoid making fun of others who may not have your incredible willpower or metabolism or genes. They are there doing the work, so respect that.

Hogging the machines

Hogging the machines

Look around you. Are there 14 people lined up to use the elliptical machines? If so, limit your time on the machine to 45 minutes or less and let others get in there. This also applies to weight machines. Don't sit there for 10 minutes and mess with your iPhone playlists.

Yelling or grunting while lifting weights

Yelling or grunting while lifting weights

Those weights are heavy, we get that. But there is no need to scream, groan loudly or throw down your weights. Keep your awesome fury inside.

Being a space invader

Being a space invader

Find a space to do your stretching and ensure you are not crowding anyone else. Don't be oblivious to those around you who might prefer some room to breathe.

Telling others what they're doing wrong

Telling others what they're doing wrong

Are you a personal trainer at the gym? No? Well then, you have no business barging into someone else's workout and offering instruction. If you're concerned about someone's form, ASK if he or she would like some tips or let a trainer know that someone might need some assistance.

Bothering others while they're exercising

Bothering others while they're exercising

There's a certain social aspect to working out, and there are attractive people you might want to get to know. That's understandable. But pick your time wisely. Don't swoop in when someone is running on the treadmill or cycling furiously or planking perfectly. And if the person seems uninterested, respect that and back away.

Filling up a giant water bottle at the fountain

Filling up a giant water bottle at the fountain

The human body is about 60 percent water, depending on age and gender. You need to stay hydrated, especially while working out. By all means, fill up that reusable water bottle at the gym fountain and spare the Earth by not adding disposable plastic bottles to the garbage. But when you see someone behind you who just wants a quick drink from the fountain, step aside and be courteous.

Taking selfies

Taking selfies

This is a workout, not a body building competition. Yes, there are lots of mirrors at the gym, but these are to check your form. Put down your cellphone and don't be a distraction.

Andrii Klemenchenko/Dreamstime

Talking on your cell

Talking on your cell

No one wants to hear your annoying calls at the gym. Again, focus on your workout and don't irritate others who just want to work out in peace.

Andor Bujdoso/Dreamstime

Not using a towel

Not using a towel

Don't leave anything behind when you get up from the machines. Use a towel so the next person isn't grossed out.

Aleksandr Markin/Dreamstime

Making a spectacle of yourself

Making a spectacle of yourself

It's best to wear a shirt at the gym. Period. It's also polite to avoid preening, strutting about, posing and generally showing off. Feel great about yourself, on the inside.

Anton Dotsenko/Dreamstime

Not putting your weights back

Not putting your weights back

After you use free weights, they need to go back on the rack. You also should put away any other equipment after you are done using it, such as yoga mats and resistance bands.

Jerry Coli/Dreamstime

Leaving a mess in the locker room

Leaving a mess in the locker room

You're an adult, so clean up after yourself. Put your dirty towels in the locker room hamper. Your mom would approve.
