Local Elks lodges have been busy this holiday season, bringing cheer to students across Tucson.
On Dec. 13, the Tucson East Elks Lodge 2532 took 68 children from Myers/Ganoung Elementary School on a shopping spree which included $100 per child and a trip to Peter Piper Pizza for food and games. The event was sponsored by lodge members and private donations.
Also on Dec. 13, the Elks Lodge 385 hosted the sixth annual Bike in a Box event. More than 500 children preselected by Tucson schools, churches, youth support agencies and non profits received new bikes and safety helmets that were custom fitted by Tucson Medical Center volunteers.
The $30,000 bike expense was covered by donations from a four-hour radiothon.
