PHOENIX — A Scottsdale man has been arrested by the FBI in connection with a kidnapping conspiracy.
Michael Raymond Ward, 34, was taken into custody and booked into the Maricopa County Jail, the FBI said Thursday.
The FBI said it first became aware of the plot to kidnap the child of a wealthy Southern Arizona family in September 2007.
Ward allegedly planned to contact the family and ask for a large ransom in exchange for the safe return of the child.
The targeted child and family along with the city was not disclosed by authorities.
But the FBI said it learned that Ward planned with some conspirators to pose as police officers and kidnap the child during a traffic stop.
Ward is the owner of a security service in Colorado, according to the FBI.
