A section of the road up Mount Lemmon is closed this afternoon after a vehicle fell about 100 feet in a crash on General Hitchcock Highway.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department says the highway is closed between mileposts 2 and 3 to accommodate a helicopter that landed on the road to help with rescue efforts.
The initial report was that a Jeep crashed about 1:30 p.m. It is unknown how long the extraction will take, said Deputy Courtney Rodriguez, a Pima County sheriff's spokeswoman.
There were two occupants of the Jeep, officials said. Both survived the crash but their conditions were not immediately known.
