YUMA, Ariz. – A female guard at the state prison in Yuma has been charged with having sex with a male inmate.
Elsa Gutierrez, 33, is charged with on one felony count of unlawful sexual conduct, court officials in Somerton said.
Gutierrez is set for a preliminary hearing on the charge next week.
Gutierrez was booked into the Yuma County Jail on Oct. 1 by a Department of Corrections investigator, Yuma County Sheriff's Capt. Eben Bratcher said. She was released the next day.
Gutierrez resigned from her position on Sept. 28 and is not eligible for rehire, said Bill Lamoreaux, spokesman for the corrections department.
