"Get down and let's do some pushups," Anita Kellman, aka "Sarge," ordered the hundreds of people gathered on the grass at Brandi Fenton Memorial Park Saturday for the third annual Beat Cancer Boot Camp Challenge.
Kellman, who worked in the medical field more than 30 years, started the program to help cancer patients in various stages of treatment and recovery heal their bodies and minds.
The event began at 7:30 a.m. with a warmup exercise led by Kellman with the help of local military officials, followed by a 5k run with an optional tire obstacle course, hurdles and mud pit to crawl through.
Brandi Fenton park is at 3482 E. River Road.
Though not everyone took part in the obstacle courses, everyone got breakfast, water, a T-shirt and a dog tag.
