A convicted murderer said he prays for his victim’s family daily at a sentencing hearing on Monday in Pima County Superior Court.
“I pray for their family every night and every morning,” Keanu Deano Castaneda said. “I have a lot of love for you guys.”
Castaneda, 22, was convicted at trial in March of first-degree murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault in the drug-related killing of 17-year-old high-school senior Carlos Sandoval at a home on the far east side in Forty-Niner Country Club.
Castaneda apologized for the killing. He and his accomplices had planned to purchase a pound of marijuana from Sandoval but instead decided to rob the teen.
Sandoval was shot during a struggle.
