Longtime Northwest Fire Chief Jeff Piechura is stepping down in October to take a similar position with the Stockton Fire Department in California’s Central Valley.
Piechura will resign Oct. 6, ending 28 years with Northwest Fire.
Spokeswoman Trina Motto said the district has a succession plan in place and its fire board will review it no later than Sept. 18.
Northwest Fire employs 192 firefighters and serves 140 square miles on Tucson's northwest side.
