Golden leaves say autumn in Vermont.
Fresh, rich red ristras — strings of chiles — say autumn in Southern Arizona and New Mexico.
The green chile pods are ripening and turning red in Hatch, New Mexico. When the red pods are ready they will be picked and tied into the ristras at the end of October, say the folks in Hatch, capital of all things chile.
Some strings are already available in Tucson and we expect roadside vendors with fresh ristras from Hatch to be popping up along Tucson streets in the next couple of weeks.
We’re on the hunt to find ristras and are asking you to share with us your favorite spot to find ristras in Tucson. Email abrown@tucson.com with your favorite ristra spot.
