Salpointe Catholic High School celebrated the completion of the Cracchiolo Family Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Center in the last week of January.
The 8,000 square-foot building was part of a $12 million capital campaign that also funded a new athletics complex and student center.
The STEM center focuses on engineering, robotics and biotechnology and includes a 3D printer, a biomedical lab, classrooms and outdoor work spaces.
Jason Hastings, a teacher and Salpointe’s department chair for career and technical education, said students have already started using the center to design and build robots.
“Students are really exposed to a career in engineering,” Hastings said. “They’re not just reading and hearing, they get to see, feel and touch what engineers do.”
