On Jan. 5 at Catalina State Park, Oro Valley will join in a county-wide remembrance of those who lost their lives in the Jan. 8, 2011, mass shooting in Tucson, as well as the past year.
Dubbed BEYOND events, they were started by the family of Gabe Zimmerman, 30-year-old congressional aide who died in the tragedy that left six dead and 13 injured, including then-U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
Oro Valley's contribution to BEYOND is a series of two Catalina State Park hikes, both of which begin at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 5. Hikers can opt to take on either the 3-mile Canyon Loop Trail or the 5.2-mile round-trip Sutherland Trail to Sutherland Wash.
