Thanks to a $23,800 grant, Northwest Fire District will add a simulation center to its training facility.
Officially called an Incident Command Simulation Center, the computer equipment simulates fires in real time, allowing commanders to practice directing their firefighting forces.
The grant comes from the nonprofit Public Safety Foundation, which is associated with Firehouse Subs, 3844 W. River Road. Firehouse Subs is part of a Florida-based chain that was started by firefighters.
Northwest Fire used the funds to buy hardware and software it needed to complete the simulation center. The department will incorporate the center into lessons plans for Northwest Fire, as well as its partners in the region.
