Two women were arrested in separate incidents Wednesday after drug dogs sniffed out the marijuana they were trying to smuggle across the border.
Both women were from Agua Prieta, Mexico, and tried to cross through the Douglas port of entry, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. They were carrying a total of $131,000 worth of pot.
During the first bust, officers found 140 pounds of pot hidden in the tires and interior of a Ford sedan driven by a 28-year-old woman. The 100 packages had a street value of $70,000.
Wednesday night, a 43-year-old woman was apprehended after 122 pounds of pot worth about $61,000 was found throughout the Dodge sedan she was driving.
The drugs and vehicles were seized. The women were referred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
