Avra Valley has a new fire truck, purchased with funds from a Tohono O’odham Nation grant.
The truck, which is capable of carrying a three-person crew, arrived last week.
It was purchased with almost $260,000 in grand funds designated for public safety and health care by the Tohono O’odham Nation, Patrick Calhoun, spokesman for the Avra Valley Fire District, said in a news release.
“The residents of the Avra Valley Fire District, district visitors and Interstate 10 and railroad travelers will directly benefit from the addition of this engine through decreased response times and increased availability of in-service fire trucks to respond to fire and medical emergencies,” Calhoun said.
With the addition of the new vehicle, the fire district will have three trucks in service at all times.
