The Tucson Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting on the southeast part of town.
Just past midnight Tuesday, police were called to an apartment complex in the 4200 block of East 29th Street near Columbus Boulevard in reference to a shooting, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a police spokesman.Â
Upon arrival, officers located a man, who police later identified as 21-year-old Herschel Watkins III, on the floor of an apartment unit with gunshot wounds, Dugan said.Â
Police immediately rendered first aid to the victim, but he died at the scene.Â
Several people were inside the apartment when the shooting took place, the police spokesman said. It appeared that everyone knew each other and that the shooting was not a random act of violence.
One person fled right after the shooting, he said. Police are in the process of trying to identify that person. No one is in custody at this point.Â
