Border Patrol agents seized nearly $900,000 worth of marijuana in an abandoned truck west of Tucson, the agency said.
On Thursday, agents discovered tire tracks in the desert near Why and followed them to an abandoned truck that was covered in a green tarp. The truck, stolen out of Tempe, held 81 bundles of marijuana weighing about 1,700 pounds, Customs and Border Protection said in a news release.
The drugs were worth about $880,000.
Agents searched the area but no smugglers were found. Agents did find supply bundles of food near the truck that were apparently meant for the smugglers.
The drugs were seized by the Border Patrol. The truck was turned over to the Tohono O'odham Police Department.
