Juan Antonio Suazo, a former Golden Gloves champion and ex-professional boxer, has been sentenced to seven years in prison in a marijuana trafficking case.
Suazo, 34, was sentenced Wednesday by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Raner C. Collins to 84 months in prison and fined $15,000, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Suazo pleaded guilty on Dec. 2, to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana.
Prosecutors say that on several occasions in 2009 Suazo supplied 300-pound to to 350-pound loads of marijuana to buyers in several states. He received more than $3 million, the release said.
The federal government seized about $1 million during the investigation by Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, which includes several agencies.
