A 55-year-old man who robbed a Tucson bank in 2009 while dressed as a woman, part of a spree of robberies throughout the state, was sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison.
Nicholas Anthony Noto's 125-month sentence, handed down Monday by U.S. District Court Judge Cindy Jorgenson, was the maximum he could have faced after pleading guilty to nine counts of bank robbery and one count of attempted bank robbery.
Noto admitted to robbing four banks in Tucson last year, including the April 2009 robbery of a Wells Fargo near North Oracle and West Ina during which surveillance cameras show he was dressed in a woman's coat and was wearing a blond wig.
Noto's robberies, which also occurred in Phoenix, Glendale and Scottsdale, netted him close to $15,000, according to court records.
His accomplice in three of the robberies, 50-year-old Darryl Watkins, will be sentenced Sept. 15 to seven years in federal prison as part of a plea agreement he made in April.
