Rural/Metro Fire Department transported a 56-year-old woman to the hospital this afternoon after she spilled a gallon of muriatic acid on herself, authorities said.
At about 12:15 p.m., Rural/Metro responded to the area of West Ina Road and North Campbell Road regarding a patient with acid burns. The woman had been transporting the acid in her vehicle when it accidentally spilled, said Jay Karlik, a spokesman for Rural/Metro said.
The woman was transporting the acid in order to safely dispose of it when the container failed, causing the acid to spill on her midsection and torso, Karlik said.
The woman was decontaminated at the scene by a hazmat crew before being transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
