Lola Ferdon

Lola Ferdon

Vearl was born May 11, 1922, in a farmhouse near Macon, MO. She died 100 years later on July 2, 2022, in Tucson. An archetype of the Greatest Generation, Vearl was hard working, dedicated, uncomplaining, and generous with a delightful sense of humor. As the oldest of six children during the depression she looked after her siblings, finished high school as Valedictorian, and then worked long hours in a war plant. After the war she moved to Tucson and was hired by the head of the UA Department of Anthropology as his administrative assistant, a job she kept until her retirement. While there she met and eventually married anthropologist Edwin Ferdon. After retiring they traveled through Europe and the Pacific Islands. After Ed passed in 2002, she returned to her passion of writing and in 2016 published a book of stories and memoirs entitled "Welcome to My World." In Arizona she is survived her daughters, Derre Ferdon (Jimmy Crabb) and Julie Ferdon (Don Smith); granddaughters, Amanda Ferdon and Kristy Crabb; grandsons, David and James Warren (Lori); and several grandchildren. In Missouri she is survived by her youngest sister, Hazel Reynolds and numerous adoring nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to Ellie, Estella, Monica and Pat, her caregivers and good friends during the last two years. Donations in her memory may be made to the local community food bank or to the Edwin Ferdon Memorial Scholarship established to assist undergraduates with financial needs. Andrew Huffman

Andrew Huffman

Andrew was born November 23, 1970 in Tucson, Arizona and passed away peacefully on July 14, 2022, surrounded by those he loved. Andy is survived by his wife, the love of his life Amy Rubasch; parents, Retired University of Arizona Physics Professor Donald and Peggy Huffman; brother, Alex Huffman (Centennial, CO); godson, Richard Campbell; sister-in-law, Jackie Trujillo (Sean); brothers-in-law, Billy Rubasch (April) and Michael Zumwalt (Highlands Ranch, CO); nieces, nephews, and the extended Huffman and Rubasch families that he loved like his own. Andy was brought home by his adoptive parents eight days after his birth. He grew up like a twin with his now late sister Amy Huffman Zumwalt (d. 2012), only eight months younger. Andy graduated from Palo Verde High School in 1989, attended Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO and the University of Arizona. One of the loves of Andy's life was sports. He was the starting center on his high school football team, was a regular at the high school wrestling championships. He received a wrestling scholarship from Fort Lewis. Later, he loved golf, partially because of the sport and largely because it meant time with his friends and family. He loved poker for the same reasons. He never waivered from his fan allegiance to the Dallas Cowboys and to the University of Arizona Wildcats. Andy spent over 20 years managing movie theaters in Tucson and around the country, starting first when he was 16 years old, then was the Manager for Chipotle, before shifting to become the HR/Accounts for the La Paloma/Heritage/Liberty Charter Schools in 2015. Andy was a Christian, and much more than the details that can be summarized on a timeline. Andy was strong: he consistently carried the burdens of others, both physically and otherwise. He was confident and always seemed to instinctively know the way to what he wanted or what others needed. He was patient, constantly listening to and helping those around him. He was steadfast, whether it be in decades of support of his favorite rock band Rush or of the sporting events of his friends' kids. He was reliable, always bringing his full effort to his work or his play He was joyful and always had a smile. He was upbeat and never seemed to be dragged down by the negativity that might have swirled around him. He was cheerful and always had a story and a laugh for everyone in the room. But maybe most of all, he was loving and devoted to his adored wife and his family. No one ever doubted his commitment to those he loved. Ultimately, Andy's body was pushed beyond what even his seemingly infinite limits could handle. Disease took Andy's body from our lives but will never take his joy from our hearts and his laugh from our memories. Andy will live on in the arms of Christ, surrounded by family and friends that went on before him until we all have the chance to reunite once again. You can be sure he has befriended the owner of the best restaurant in heaven and will have a good seat and a big hug ready for you. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the Fountain of Life Church, 710 S. Kolb Rd., Tucson, AZ. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL.

She is also a philanthropic contributor to her alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh.   She loved dogs, especially English Setters and enjoyed hiking with them in the mountains around Tucson and in Colorado.  Louise loved spending time with her dear cousins Louise and Buzz Bailey as well as Jorge Elizade and family and her many close friends.    Louise appreciated the expert and compassionate care she received from the Parkinson Wellness Recovery, the Veteran's Hospital in Tucson, Casa de la Luz Hospice, and the many caregivers who accompanied her on her journey. Debbie Weller

Debbie Weller

Debbie, my sister Debbie always complained that I was guilty of being the mean older sister when we were kids. Why did my parents need more kids than me? So, I didn't really abuse Debbie and Bob, but I was she who must be obeyed when Mom and Dad were gone. Later in life, Deb rose from minion to best friend. We traveled together visiting family and friends. We toured together seeing Europe and Mexico. Trips were always more fun with Deb. She became a close aunt to her niece Emiley and great aunt to Abby. She was more than a mere grandmother to Christina, generous to a fault. Shopping with Debbie was an adventure. Quick to not make a decision, we languished for hours searching for the perfect garden plants. Christmas shopping devolved to on line. Deb was a whiz at Ebay, and her collections of dolls was awesome. My husband Clayton and my brother Bob have a lifetime supply of flannel shirts thanks to Debbie's Christmas gifts. It was at the Rudeout, she was able to let go of normal life, indulging in the adult beverages and entertainments far from kids and rules. That lakeside party usually took place around her birthday, so it was a double celebration. Debbie and I loved to watch mystery series, especially if they involved English accents. When together, we'd binge watch for hours. When apart, we'd send each other the titles of the latest ones available, followed by chitchat of what we'd seen. For any occasion, we share cake with double cream frosting. It was during the last years of her life she exhibited true courage. She and I grew closer as we struggled against her onset of cancer. I spent as much time as I could with her, taking her to the treatments, taking her shopping, sitting and talking about people, good times and bad. She'll be sorely miss by family and by her beloved dogs. So good-bye, Debbie. I shall miss you every second of every day until it's my time to leave this world. Love you so much, your sister, Linda. Debbie is survived by: her brother Bob Ayres, her sister Linda Clayton, son Stephen Weller and his wife Deborah, and son Peter Weller and his wife Jennifer. Debbie Weller, May 25, 1949. left June 20, 2022 Arrangements by East Lawn Palms Mortuary.
