Vice President Kamala Harris has picked Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to be her running mate.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz speaks Nov. 1 during a visit to Dutch Creek Farms in Northfield, Minn. Walz was born in Nebraska and has lived in Minnesota since the 1990s. He retired from the Army National Guard in 2005 as a command sergeant major and is a former teacher and high school football coach.
Walz has been governor of Minnesota since 2019.
The Midwestern governor, military veteran and union supporter has helped enact an ambitious Democratic agenda for his state, including sweeping protections for abortion rights and aid to families.
