At about 8:40 a.m., the Sierra Vista Police Department responded to Berean Academy for a report of a bomb threat.
During the investigation, officers learned that a student was overheard saying he had a bomb in his backpack. The school, following its policies, evacuated the students and staff, and a perimeter was established around the campus by law enforcement. The backpack was identified and quarantined until a Fort Huachuca explosive detection K9 arrived to clear the area. The campus was cleared by Fort Huachuca’s K9 and the scene was released to school administrators. There is no ongoing threat to the community.
The juvenile who made the statement was booked into juvenile detention and referred for disruption of an educational institution and making a false terroristic threat.
