Fauci: 1st case of omicron variant identified in US
A person in California became the first in the U.S. to have an identified case of the COVID-19 omicron variant, the White House announced Wednesday as scientists continue to study the risks posed by the new strain of the virus. “This is the first case of COVID-19 caused by the omicron variant detected in the United States,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease specialist, said at the White House Wednesday. Fauci said the person was a traveler who returned from South Africa on Nov. 22 and tested positive on Nov. 29.
