The American Red Cross in Arizona needs your blood.
There’s a national shortage of blood and platelets and to help bolster the supply, the local Red Cross is extending hours at its east-side blood donor center, 7139 E. Broadway, this week in hopes of attracting more donors.
The Red Cross is in particular need of O and B negative blood types. O negative can be used to treat any patient.
Donations typically decline in the summer months because so many donors are busy or traveling. But this summer the decline was exacerbated by major disasters like tornadoes and flooding across the country, said Debra Deininger, communications and marketing manager for the American Red Cross, Arizona Blood Services Region.
