A woman was killed in a collision Tuesday of an SUV and a semi-truck in the Vail area on Tucson's far southeast side, authorities said.
The crash occurred at about 6:40 a.m. at the intersection of Sahuarita Road and Melpomene Way. The Pima County Sheriff's Department gave the following account in a news release:
A preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a red SUV headed west on Sahuarita Road attempted to make a left turn onto Melpomene, entering the path of an eastbound semi-truck, which struck the side of the vehicle.
The driver of the SUV, 62-year-old Andrea Harris, was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
The investigation indicates neither speed nor impairment were factors in the crash.
