Motorists in Southern Arizona planning to travel to California on Interstate 10 will need to find alternate routes.
Interstate 8 can be used as an alternative to get to California before branching off on smaller highways for specific destinations.
For travelers whose final destinations are in the Palm Springs or Los Angeles areas, a detour north from I-8 near El Centro can be taken on California State Route 111 or State Route 86.
Either route will lead to I-10 connections near Indio, California. Phoenix area travelers are encouraged to exit I-10 at California 177, travel north to California 62 and go west to return to I-10 at Palm Springs.
Eastbound traffic returning to Southern Arizona on I-10 also will follow California state routes 86 or 111 to I-8 to Yuma.
