The Arizona Department of Education is working to expand college access, committing to increase the state’s college enrollment by one percent each year over the next six years.
The commitment was made as part of College Opportunity Day of Action in Washington, D.C.
Expanding opportunity for more students to enroll and succeed in college, especially low-income and underrepresented students, is vital to building a strong economy and a strong middle class, College Opportunity Day of Action officials say.
The Arizona College and Career Ready Team, a network dedicated to the professional development of school counselors and other college access professionals, participated in the event along with education representatives from around the country.
Participants were asked to commit to action in one of four areas: building networks of colleges around promoting completion; creating K-16 partnerships around college readiness; investing in high school counselors as part of the Reach Higher initiative; and increasing the number of college graduates in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
