Six new Honda motorcycles for the Tucson Police Department were among more than $250,000 worth of equipment made possible through grants from a state agency.
The motorcycles purchased for DUI enforcement were among equipment put on display Friday during a news conference at the department’s traffic division headquarters at 1310 W. Miracle Mile.
Other equipment made available through funding from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety included two unmarked SUVs, also for DUI enforcement, 24 laser speed-detection devices for traffic enforcement and a dynamometer for traffic crash investigations.
The state’s highway safety agency has provided more than $2 million in grant funding during the last three years to support overtime pay for training, education and enforcement programs, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a police spokesman.
