Surplus U.S. Air Force T-6 planes, used to train pilots in World War II, sat at the Downtown Airport near 36th Street and Kino Parkway in December 1957, waiting to be dismantled. Today, the land is the construction site of The Bridges shopping complex, where a Walmart also is being built.
