Customs and Border Protection officers at the Nogales commercial crossing discovered 11,000 pounds of marijuana hidden inside a shipment of charcoal.
On Feb. 13, a CBP drug dog alerted to a shipment of charcoal crossing into Arizona in a tractor-trailer rig. When officers checked one of the boxes they discovered a suspicious bundle, according to a CBP news release.
The shipment was X-rayed and officers found 480 bundles of marijuana worth about $5.6 million co-mingled in the charcoal.
Officers arrested the driver, a 43-year-old Mexican national, and seized the drugs and tractor-trailer rig.
