Border officers at a Nogales port of entry discovered $1.6 million worth of marijuana hidden inside cans of jalapenos.
A 34-year-old Mexican national was arrested Monday in connection with the seizure of nearly 3,300 pounds of marijuana found in a tractor-trailer rig at the Nogales Commercial Facility, according to a news release from Customs and Border Protection.
CBP officers referred the Nogales, Sonora, resident for an additional inspection of the tractor-trailer rig he was driving when he tried to cross into the United States.
During the inspection, a CBP dog alerted to the presence of drugs inside the shipment of canned jalapenos. Officers found more than 2,000 cans filled with marijuana.
The drugs, canned jalapenos and rig were seized. The driver was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
