A 24-year-old woman was arrested Friday after border officers found 144 packages of marijuana hidden in the Dodge sedan she was driving into Douglas from Mexico, officials say.
Mayra Delores Martinez, a U.S. citizen living in Agua Prieta, Sonora, was pulled over for an additional inspection at the Douglas Port of Entry after a drug dog alerted to her car, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a news release.
Officers discovered about 200 pounds of marijuana hidden throughout the car. The value of the pot was estimated at $100,000.
The car was seized and Martinez was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
